The Pavan House

An Aluminium Alloy I Beam Frame and Rammed Earth Walled Extension to an exisiting suburban dwelling in Sydney.

The extension creates a large open plan living space with light and air and volume at the rear of a traditional federation style brick dwelling. The Eastern wall is rammed earth made with site soil. There is an underground watertank beneath a flywired verandah space at the rear.

The building opens up to the sky to bring in sunlight and available breezes. Wide eaves protect from summer heat and equinoxial storms. Miniorb has been used to complement the exposed Aluminium Alloy frame.

It is believed that this is the first Aluminium Alloy I Beam frame fabricated for a dwelling. The entire frame was site fabricated and lifted into place by family and friends, each section weighing less than two hundred kilograms.
