Traditional Japanese Joinery adapted and modified for Contemporary Australian Construction
The philosophical concept behind the use of this form of joined construction is twofold. initially it came from environmental considerations, the attempt to minimise construction requirements by using a material to hold itself together. In time the Joinery then became a facet of the aescetic value of the building and the process of building. The high skill levels required intense concentration and focus as well as good memory techniques.
The joinery was developed from traditional joinery techniques, mostly Japanese in origin but also from North American, European and Bhutanese styles. These traditional techniques were modified to facilitate the use of some power tools to enable the process to meet budgeting and timing constraints. Care was taken to retain the integrity of the concept.
